Time to bust out the green clothes and drop all pretense of being an alcoholic! It’s March again, a time when everyone is Irish in order to drink, sing songs, and look for leprechauns with their pot o’gold. Speaking of leprechauns, we continued the search for Irish characters in games from different genres to present you another list of Irish video game characters to celebrate with on Saints Patrick’s Day for 2023!

Sean MacGuire (Red Dead Redemption 2)
Born in Ireland, Sean had to flee with his father at a young age because the elder MacGuire was an outlaw who was eventually hunted down and killed. Fatherless, Sean went to reform school which didn’t do anything for him. Instead, he continued on to the life of becoming an outlaw.
Which is a shame. Sean has the charm as a talkative and cheerful Irishman. He just needs to finally walk the path of the angels instead of the devils in the wild wild west of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Moira O’Deorain (Overwatch)
In many ways, Moira is a typical person from Ireland: the hard-to-read-or-pronounce last name, red hair, stubborn, and determined. But don’t let her calm and logical persona fool you. This soulless ginger has no scruples or qualms when it comes to her scientific research. She will either work with you just as easily as she would lob a Biotic Orb at your face if either path advances her goals.
As a scientist, she is a credit to the Emerald Isle if on the dark side when it comes to her morals. Though, hopefully, she doesn’t follow the same path that Ireland did. As a wise man named Robin Williams once said, “The Irish saved civilization, drank a couple of guinness, and forgot where they put it.”
Aran Ryan (Super Punch-Out!)
There is nothing more the Irish love to do than fighting and drinking and fighting and loving and fighting. So Aran Ryan embodies that fighting spirit. Though, he could be better at his profession since he tends to hold the lowest ranked title of the World Circuit in the Punch-Out games.
Sure, he is no Conor McGreggor when it comes to fighting or as handsome as Pierce Brosnan, but this six-foot-one-inch package of Irish muscle still gets his licks in.
Faith Connors (Mirror’s Edge)
If you lonely Irish lads are looking for an Irish lass, then you should know that Faith Connors is single. However, you had better be able to keep up with this runner who traverses throughout the entire city of Glass delivering information and avoiding the authorities. And then be prepared for a bout of fistcuffs if she doesn’t take a fancy to ya. Making her an ideal daughter of the Emerald Isle.
Not to mention, due to her mixed heritage of Asian and Irish descent, you might be in for some interesting culinary excursions.
Lamb sushi roll anyone?
Shay Patrick Cormac (Assassin’s Creed Rogue)
A son of Irish immigrants, who passed away when he was young, Cormac was a member of the Templar Order and former assassin of the Colonial Brotherhood. He was also a sailor, for a short time, as he sailed with his father and learned marksmanship and swordsmanship before a fierce storm led to the death of his father at sea. The loss of his parents is what led him to become an assassin and templar as a choice made out of desperation. A decision that led to Shay being remorseful over the assassins he killed.
Side note: I tend to stay away from recommending anything from Ubisoft because I dislike the company. But shout out to MsinVader47 for the suggestion.
Patrick Galloway (Clive Barker’s Undying)
What is there to say about Patrick Galloway from the horror FPS game Clive Barker’s Undying? He is a man with nerves of steel, for sure. After all, this World War I veteran is called upon by his friend and former commanding officer to deal with a curse since Patrick is an expert when it comes to the occult. And when dealing with the occult, you better be strong-willed and determined to see it through.
Especially when you are trying to find out and get rid of the Curse of the Undying King.
Jane Kelly (XCOM 2)
When it comes to fighting, there isn’t anyone better than Jane Kelly. As one of the most recognizable members of XCOM, aside from the Commander himself, this rootin, tootin, katana-wielding avatar of death is such a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield that even the enemy knows who she is.
A true daughter of Ireland who does us proud.

Sean Diaz (Life is Strange 2)
Like many cultures, the concept of family is no stranger to the Irish and is the most important thing: Sean being an exemplary example of this concept in Life is Strange 2 (depending on the choices you make as the player). Fortunately, unlike his mother who is a disgrace to the Irish for abandoning her family, the apple fell far away from that tree. Sean is willing to go through a lot and sacrifice much to protect and guide his younger brother.
But for this Mexican-Irish boy-turned-parental-figure, that job is much harder since Daniel also has telekinetic powers.
Personally, I can’t help thinking of the lyrics to that Bruno Mars song, “I’d take a grenade for ya. Take a glass shard in my eye, for ya…”
So take a shot of tequila with a Guinness chaser this Saint Patrick’s Day for Sean and family loyalty.

April O’Neil (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade)
As the first ally of the Turtles, April O’Neil has been depicted as many things. An intrepid reporter, warrior, computer programmer, antique shop owner, vigilante crime fighter, stepmom, and more. But of course, in many cases, the damsel-in-distress. Not surprising since the main characters are a group of young turtle boys who cut no slack so they are going to need to rescue someone. Right?
But did you know that April is also Irish?
Right now, there is a lot of controversy over this beloved character thanks to Seth Rogen’s version which was shown in the trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem which depicts April O’Neil as a fat, black woman. Depending on who you ask, the character of April is either mixed-raced or Caucasian. TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman based his idea of O’Neil on his ex-wife who was mixed race while co-creator Peter Laird had “always imagined her as white, and very likely of Irish/Scottish/English ancestry.”
And, since he said Irish first, we are satisfied with saying that April is Irish! So whether she is Irish or Irish and black it doesn’t matter to us! She is Irish!
However, she needs to slim it down for a number of reasons.
All that said, the cartoon depiction and arcade game cements this version of April O’Neil for us.
