Knightly Musings: Bethesda’s Political Wokeness Should be Punished Not Rewarded – Refund, Boycott, or Bargain Bin Starfield

The advancement of wokeness continues its goose-stepping march through the gaming world and community perpetuated by a vocal minority in tandem with the video game news media. Whether it is the insertion of unneeded pronouns alongside male and female character options to the inclusion of top body scars on prepubescent children, the intrusion of this indoctrination continues. Unsurprisingly, regular people are getting sick of real life politics being injected into their escapism across all forms of entertainment. The latest example of this revolves around Bethesda’s Starfield which was recently released. However, here is the problem. People who have an issue with Starfield should refund and boycott it if they want this kind of thing to stop.

Which is not the case for the majority who are screaming at their webcams.

Currently, YouTuber HeelvsBabyface, aka Az, is trending on Twitter after ranting about Starfield and getting quite a lot of heat for it. The rant specifically focused on the inclusion of gender pronouns included in the character customization screen. It was passionate and echoed what many people think; that they are tired of modern-day politics and agendas being forced into entertainment that is supposed to be an escape from reality.

Regular people are tired of it as well. From The Witcher’s season 3 bombing because it was woke from the start, to Disney losing at least $900 million in 2023 so far, and even Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power only seeing 37% of its audience finish the show. It appears that Hollywood is finally starting to crumble as people no longer want to see a woke agenda inserted into their entertainment. They want to see great entertainment which requires great writing.

Which is rare in Hollywood these days and a reason why almost no one cares about the writer’s strike currently happening.

Just like with Hollywood, a similar thing is slowly starting to happen in the video game sector. Gamers recently witnessed 30-year-old video game developer Volition shut down because, as many have surmised, it went woke. Saints Row (2022), a reboot of the popular franchise, underperformed because Volition went out of its way to vilify the franchise’s history, what made it popular, and even demonized the fanbase that made it successful.

Unfortunately, it is one of a very few examples of game developers feeling the repercussions of their decisions and actions. Whereas others, such as Activision Blizzard remain almost unaffected whenever they make a wrong move. The latest example being of the developer taking a pro-child grooming stance with its “Call of Groomers” moment.

The reason why game developers keep getting away with including politics and woke agendas in their games is the same reason why their anti-consumer practices, hostile workplaces, sexual harassment, and sexual assault continue on within the industry. Because the majority of gamers don’t really care so long as they can play the game.

Not just gamers, but influential content creators are guilty of this as well. They will make their little YouTube videos, release a short, and post a tweet to get the clicks. But then go right back to playing the same games they just talked about from the same developers they were lambasting.

Which is what is going on with HeelvsBabyface. He made this viral rant and, after huffing and puffing while making no cogent or salient arguments about why pronouns shouldn’t be in the game, what did he do? Did he tell people to refund their game or boycott the game? Did he stop playing?

No.

After his little rant, he immediately went back to playing Starfield.

When it comes to content creators like this, I can’t take them seriously. I can respect the work they put into doing what they do, but nothing else. They don’t truly stand for anything. At the very least, not when it actually counts. HeelvsBabyface is just farming for reactions and attention; not for any real change in the industry. If that had been the case, he would have instantly returned the game when he got to the character creation screen or at least deleted it and told his viewers to boycott Starfield.

But he didn’t.

And neither will the majority of content creators who don’t have the spine to speak out loud in addition to those who will pontificate and grandstand to their audience. Because, at the end of the day, they all go back to play the game because it is their job. And when money is on the line, there can be no standing up for what is right.

Let’s face it, when it comes to taking action, only one side really does anything. If you don’t use their preferred pronouns or don’t agree with them, they will call you transphobic, want you arrested, will sue you if they can, and will try to destroy your life through cancellation, striking your channel, reporting you, destroying your business, etc. These same people have no qualms about restricting your free speech to get what they want. They want to jail you if you address them by their wrong pronoun and will do it if laws were ever to be passed. Yet, regular people are simply using their biological pronouns. You know, what they were born with and, in many cases, still outwardly look like even though, inwardly, they FEEL they are something else.

Just look what happened to Nina Infinity for just refunding games. According to her, she has received rape threats, death threats, calls to commit suicide, and much more.

Which is why this woke agenda has progressed so far. One side is willing to do anything to make it happen. Whereas people who are against being forced to refer to someone by their pronouns and ignore the science, they will not fight back.

Case in point, Bethesda is allegedly banning Starfield mods that remove the pronouns in Starfield.

While there is finally some pushback from regular people as we see with Budlight losing a lot of business and the aforementioned Disney having a bad year, the same can’t be said for the video game industry. The woke agenda will continue because gamers are rewarding it.

Purchasing a game like Starfield, which has pronouns, means that you support the inclusion and use of pronouns. You can try to make excuses like, “I wanted to support the people who worked on this” or “it’s the only game that looks interesting” or “it’s just pronouns” or “the game is going to be make money anyways” or even more pathetic is the “but I’ve always been a Bethesda fan.” but unless it is your job to review the game, it’s a pathetic attempt to absolve you of any wrongdoing, accountability, and guilt. Even then, you should take a stand even if it is your job. Because it doesn’t matter what you say, it’s what you do. Whether it is Bethesda’s Starfield or Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3, you are telling everyone that you have no problem with woke ideology and that you support it.

So nothing changes and this farce continues on, courtesy of the vocal minority and shill video game news outlets. Made possible with the financial support from you.

Which is the worst thing about all of this. There are far more people who do not subscribe to this woke ideology that could get the video game sector to change, but they don’t.

Until you do something about it. Whether it is boycotting Starfield or even waiting for it to end up in the bargain bin if you have to play it. You need to do something to make change happen.

After all, actions speak louder than empty rhetoric and bombastic diatribes.

So refund, boycott, or bargain bin Bethesda’s Starfield or continue to be the hypocritical coward you are.
