Because of my recent car troubles and moving to a new location I’ve been busy with work to pay off repair bills and still settling into my new place. So I haven’t been able to do a lot of blogging. However, I did take some time to write out a small little story that I’ve titled “The Boy and the Little Pumpkin.”
It’s a cute little story that takes place during Halloween involving a young boy who runs away from home and runs into a little pumpkin at a cemetery. I don’t know why this story popped into my head, but it did, and I quickly wrote down some bullet points so I can flesh it out during my free time.
I even came up with an ebook cover and, If I can finish writing this story, I might try and sell it before Halloween arrives. Most likely via a landing page on this site if I can figure out how to do that.
Title: “The Boy and the Little Pumpkin”
– David, a ten-year-old boy, dreams of becoming a writer, but his mother insists he should become a doctor.
– They argue and, in frustration, his mother throws away the story he was working on.
– David decides to leave home, packing a backpack with supplies.
– He stumbles upon a small pumpkin by a lake in a cemetery, which surprisingly begins to speak.
– The little pumpkin tells David how it was discarded and forgotten because no one wanted to carve it for Halloween.
– David promises to carve something special into the pumpkin despite his lack of artistic skills.
– A ghost, who was a master carver, appears to help David carve the pumpkin, calming his initial fear.
– Another ghost, an unpublished writer, advises David to pursue his writing dreams without fear.
– A third ghost, a master photographer, assists in taking pictures of the beautifully carved pumpkin.
– The ghosts offer wisdom about dedication, conquering fear, and continually improving one’s skills.
– They also suggest understanding and tolerating his mother’s concerns about his future.
– The pumpkin is overjoyed with its transformation and newfound purpose.
– David returns home, more mature and stoic, and reaffirms his dream to become a writer to his mother.
– The little pumpkin eventually decays, but its memory remains.
