Nielsen Reports 10.9% Increase For Amazon’s The Rings of Power Domestic Viewing

Nielsen has released its Top 10 Streaming List for September 16th thru the 22nd. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, a biographical crime drama series, took the top spot with 1.716 billion minutes watched, immediately followed by crime drama The Perfect Couple 1.013 billion minutes. In third place was Amazon’s fantasy series The Rings of Power with 829 million minutes viewed domestically.

This is the first time Nielsen has reported an increase in minutes watched for The Rings of Power Season 2. During the week of September 9th, the data analytics firm reported that the fantasy show had accrued 747 million minutes, which means there was a 10.9% increase from that time and the week of September 16th. However, that is still a decrease of 18.3% drop in minutes compared to the week of October 26-September 1st when the show premiered.

The Rings of Power Season 2 has been experiencing a decline in viewership not just for the current season, but also a drastic decrease in minutes watched compared to Season 1. However, this increase could be a positive indication for the domestic stats leading up to the final week of September 29th when the Season 2 finale aired on October 3rd.

Amazon has also reported high numbers when it comes to the show’s global audience, which was 55 million, yet, despite the scant information provided by the company, still shows a pattern of an ever-decreasing viewership for The Rings of Power. As a result, Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke did admit that The Rings of Power five season deal wasn’t guaranteed

The uptick in minutes watched is a positive sign for the Season 2 finale which could see a further increase in viewership numbers domestically and globally given the amount of discussions that centered around The Rings of Power Season 2 finale. Meanwhile, Amazon has yet to provide any numbers for the finale.
