Turn-based Strategy Game Rogue Hex Enters Steam Early Access, Combines Civilization with Deckbuilding

For strategy game fans looking for a turn-based title that shakes the genre up by adding random factors into the by-the-numbers gameplay, then Rogue Hex might be the game for you. Developed by Topstitch Games, Rogue Hex is a Civilization-type 4X roguelike with deckbuilding which just launched into Steam Early Access today.

The indie title offers players a unique blend of deckbuilding, city-building, and exploration elements across a dynamic hexagonal grid. From the stone age to the stars, navigating through six distinct eras, players will need to scout ever-changing lands, survive against barbarian hordes, and expand their empire through strategic card play and technology advancement.

In early access, Rogue Hex offers ten difficulty levels known as Hex Levels, which provides a wide range of replayability. It has over 200 technologies to discover and players can mix and match strategies to create wildly different civilizations with each run.

What differentiates Rogue Hex from other turn-based strategy games such as the Civilization franchise is the game’s card system. Players will be able to create their own deck of cards to suit their strategy in which, throughout the game, will be given opportunities to upgrade their cards, units, and cities.

Topstitch Games solo developer Reed Erlandson was excited for Rogue Hex’s Early Access launch stating,

“I’m a solo developer, but I didn’t create this ambitious game alone. Our incredible community helped at every step of the way with bug reports, brilliant suggestions, and constant support. So, from the bottom of my heart, I’d like to shout a massive thank you out to the entire Rogue Hex community. It would truly have been impossible without your help.

It took almost three years of hard work to arrive here… and we’re just getting started.

Expect regular updates with new content, bug fixes, and quality of life improvements in the weeks and months to come!”

Rogue Hex is available now on Steam Early Access for $14.99 (currently on sale for $13.49 until January 27). The game is expected to increase in price upon its full release.
