When it comes to naming viruses, it can be difficult to remember their official names. Take H1N1 for example. Even former vice-president Joe Biden had trouble calling it that in a recent debate with senator Bernie Sanders confusing Coronavirus with Ebola. But H1N1 is more commonly referred to as the Swine flu and is aptly called that because it is endemic in pigs. Viruses are usually referred to by their origin but, all of a sudden, it is now racist to do that. At least when it comes to COVID-19. According to the mainstream media (MSM), calling it Wuhan or Chinese virus is a racist thing to do. But the MSM who declares that saying “Chinese Virus” is racist have proven that they are gaslighting hypocritical racists themselves.
Obviously, it is not just the MSM click jocks that are trumpeting this. It’s health organizations, political pundits, SJWs, and the left parroting this obtuse reasoning as well. There are even a number of regular people I follow on Twitter and Facebook who are saying the exact thing in an attempt to sound woke. Yet they are also being hypocrites to an absurd degree. However, I am not here to call out friends and followers. I want to get to the source of this issue which is the MSM, woke organizations, and political pundits.
So why is this even happening? Why are these organizations screeching that it is verboten to say “Wuhan Virus” or “Chinese Virus?” After all, the coronavirus originated in Wuhan which is located in China. In the case of the term “Wuhan Virus,” news sites such as CNN, The New York Times, Bloomberg, TIME, and other outlets were calling it the Wuhan virus in January of this year. The answer?
President Trump.
Only yesterday, President Trump said “Chinese Virus” in a tweet while talking about how the US will support industries being affected by the pandemic. Right after he said this, the MSM pounced with organizations such as UNESCO quick to say something on the topic as well in addition to the aforementioned news outlets. For example, on UNESCO’s Twitter account, the organization tweeted, “…viruses have no nationality.” Then prior to Trump’s statement, WHO had posted a tweet which read,
“DON’T – attach locations or ethnicity to the disease, this is not a “Wuhan Virus”, “Chinese Virus” or “Asian Virus”.
The official name for the disease was deliberately chosen to avoid stigmatization.”
Sounds reasonable, right? It isn’t.
In fact, it sounds rather hypocritical considering that viruses have been named after their place of origin for a long time. After all, are we not stigmatizing pigs by saying Swine flu or birds when we talk about the Avian flu? Now you’re right, those are animals. So what would you say about Ebola, German measles, Spanish flu, Japanese Encephalitis, Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted fever, or West Nile virus? These are all named after their place of origins but these are all racist names according to all the woke organizations and people on the internet.
Of course, none of Trump’s critics would ever use these terms. They are the woke, progressive left. Yet, the aforementioned outlets have used the phrase “Wuhan virus” in their reporting. But in an attempt to gaslight everyone, people aren’t allowed to say it anymore. But not just gaslighting the public in order to hurt Trump and discourage people from following him, they are showing us how they are all hypocrites.
They are especially showing us that they are racist too according to their own standard that they are setting. Just take the Ebola virus for example. It originates in Ebola which is in the Democratic Republic of the Congo(DRC). Yet no one calls it by any other name except Ebola. Even WHO calls it the Ebola virus on its own page. The same organization that just said, regarding the coronavirus, “The official name for the disease was deliberately chosen to avoid stigmatization.’ So what is the difference between saying Wuhan virus and Ebola virus?
You’ve got CNN click jock Jim Acosta lambasting Trump over saying Chinese virus yet he refers to the other virus as Ebola; same with CNN click jock Brian Stelter. UNESCO calls it Ebola and WHO goes so far as to include a graphic with a black person on it when talking about Ebola. So what happened with trying to avoid stigmatization there? Then you’ve got New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio claiming that Trump is “fueling more bigotry” by saying Chinese Virus yet de Blasio himself calls a certain virus Ebola and even calls out West Africa for it. A person named Eugene Cho says that “calling it the ‘Chinese virus’ only instigates blame, racism, and hatred against Asians.” Yet despite saying this, he calls it the Ebola virus as well.
Even China is trying to change the narrative, claiming that it is racist. This is for a good reason, because the Chinese government knows it is responsible for the world suffering, people dying, and economies tanking. China is conducting a social media blitz to label Wuhan or Chinese virus as racist. It is claiming that no one is helping them.
And the MSM is falling in line with this authoritarian communist regime’s agenda.
This is the same country that tried to cover up the outbreak for months, allowing infected citizens to travel the globe. They then silenced doctors, critics, activists, and whistleblowers. They refused to accept help from the US, CDC, and WHO. The government even went so far as to ban a video game because of the Wuhan virus and is now ejecting American reporters from the country.
So explain to me how calling COVID 19 the Wuhan virus, or Chinese virus, is racist. Once you do, then you need to tell me why Ebola, Zika, West Nile viruses are not racist. Because what I see here is that when it comes to African viruses, it is not racist to call them these names. But it is racist to say that a virus originates from China. I guess that means that these organizations and you are racist against black people. But if you are not a racist, then you are definitely a hypocrite.
Suffice to say, there is nothing wrong with calling the coronavirus Wuhan virus or the Chinese virus. It is not racist, it is undoubtedly apt. You are just peddling a political agenda by the MSM and the Communist Party of China. China, a country that is responsible for the deaths of thousands, the suffering of hundreds of thousands, and the loss of trillions of dollars (so far).
President Trump needs to take China to the cleaners and you need to stop being a hypocritical racist. If you have read all this and still think people are being racist, then I’m dying to hear your explanation of an asinine and obtuse position.
To make things more lighthearted, here is a clip of late-night show hosts making fun of ebola.

You do realize that there is always an uptick in violence against a group that is associated with any virus? Like Ebola? There was an uptick in violence against African Americans and black people too. Can’t use that as a call out for overall racism because the psychotic few decide to attack people that will be associated with an epidemic/pandemic.
