Some say…that I have no clue what I’m doing. Yet others say…that I still don’t know what I’m doing. All I know is…that I hope I know what I’m doing! After all, I have traveled through space and time, come from a galaxy far, far away, and still my mission is to boldly go where no writer has gone before!
Outside…
Just kidding about that! I have been outside.
Once.
And I’ll never go outside again.
But on a serious note, I’m not sure what you want to know about me. Maybe you want to see my bona fides and determine whether or not I am worth taking the time out of your day to read anything I write. Personally, I don’t think I am. But you can judge me on my work both past and present. Though, sadly, the majority of my work was lost on the interwebs as two platforms that held the bulk of my work no longer exist.
So I started off as a blogger for a few years on IGN’s blogging platform, when it still existed, where I wrote over 800 blog posts and amassed a following of 3,000. Then all my work, for about two years, as a news writer/freelance writer for Maximum PC was blotted out as the site closed and then merged into PC Gamer. I couldn’t tell you how many news articles I wrote but I had the opportunity to also write Top 10 Lists and video game reviews while it existed.
Luckily, there are two other sites that still exist where you can view my work, Press2Reset and Hot Hardware, which I will reference every now and then in future posts on this site. But I probably wrote over a couple hundred news articles combined.
When it comes to my writing for those sites, I always tried to be straightforward and blunt whether I was talking about why people should Boycott Diablo 3 or informing consumers to wait on buying SimCity and what I thought of Evolve and GTA 5 in my reviews. Of course, there were times I liked to be silly and have fun such as having a SimCity Rap Battle or griping about Dark Souls 2.
As for podcasts, I have had the pleasure of participating on the Press Pass podcast, from its start, to taking over as the anchor starting around episode 20 to and ending at episode 150. It was a fun experience and a role I enjoyed taking over until I made the decision to move on. The podcast still exists and is going on, though on a semi-regular basis(you can listen to the show on Spotify). I then went on to create, edit, and host the ARKeologist’s Podcast for over two years and 100 episodes. But while the Press Pass podcast focused on everything that involved video games, the ARKeologist’s Podcast was more focused on one video game – ARK: Survival Evolved (you can listen to all the episodes on YouTube and the last thirty episodes on Spotify).
I gained a lot of experience editing audio, trying to create fresh content, and keeping it interesting for our listeners. Which is quite a challenge when you are restricted to talking about a single game! But it was a lot of fun and, if you want to see how the quality of the work changed, I would recommend you check out the first episode(Episode 1-71 only on YouTube) and then listen to the last episode (Episode 100) in terms of quality of the editing.
I am also a YouTuber, though not a very successful one, having posted over a hundred videos. Though that was more of an opportunity to dip my hands into video editing. Currently, I have no plans to post to YouTube until I can get a better internet service which is a major issue for me right now.
As for live-streaming, I have no talent for it and, for most of the time since the service has existed, my internet was never good enough to stream at a watchable quality. So I don’t see myself going back to live-streaming anytime soon.
But my forte has always been writing. Whether or not it is still a successful medium for content creators to still pursue is the major question. Personally, I think it still is and it is up to me to make it so.
So what can you expect from me on this blog? I plan to write mostly op-eds focusing on video games and the gaming industry as a whole. I also plan to write about Movies and TV, mostly about Star Trek, and literature (Science Fiction and Fantasy). There will also be a smattering of op-eds on current political events which continue to invade my life more and more whether via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and even my personal and social life. Much to my great annoyance.
I also have a number of features that I will be bringing back such as Food for Gaming, which is a feature that rates and reviews different kinds of food that would be suitable to eat while you are playing video games (messiness, forkability, taste, etc). The Captain’s Chair feature is a Star Trek-oriented series to discuss some of my favorite episodes in depth and even on the current state of the franchise (though I am thinking of including all Sci-Fi in this feature). I also have a series where I highlight voice actors from video games and do a sort of bio on them which is called Giving a Face to the Voice.
In short, after this verbose introduction, my writing will be all over the place. But you can expect me to be pro-consumer, factual, and very opinionated with what I write.
Hopefully you’ll enjoy.
My name is Sean D Knight and I will be your guide.
