Celebrate Valentine’s Day With These Single Video Game Characters For 2022

It’s that time of the year again. You know, where those in relationships remind all the single people out there of what they are missing out on. But don’t worry! You being single is nothing to be ashamed about. Why? Because you are in good company! Just take a look at all these popular video game characters who are single on Valentine’s Day!

Jill Valentine (Resident Evil Franchise)

What can be said about Jill Valentine? She is attractive, exotic, intelligent, brave, loyal, and tough-as-nails. From her French and Japanese background, to being in Delta Force, STARS, and a founding member of the BSAA, her combat experience is impressive and the things she has gone through would have driven most people insane. So it’s understandable that Ms Valentine certainly has her fair share of admirers whose hearts have been lockpicked.

But what is it that keeps her single? Is it the hordes of braindead zombies who chase after her, a persistent stalker named Nemesis, or maybe she just hasn’t found Mr Right? Whatever the case may be, the fact that her last name is Valentine and she is single makes her the poster child of this editorial!

Doomguy (DOOM franchise)

Doomguy, Doom marine, Doom slayer, B.J. Blazkowicz’s descendent; whatever you call him is okay because he has no name. This futuristic marine doesn’t need one. His actions speak for him. And by actions I mean bloody, uber violent, limb-decapitating-and-body-chunks-flying-across-the-room actions. This marine doesn’t need a woman! He just needs his job where he dispatches the denizens of hell, whether on Mars or within hell itself, with a stoic demeanor that would make any man jealous. Because nothing fazes this guy!

I take that back, I bet a woman would be disconcerting for him. Unfortunately, women wouldn’t want him because he had such a stiff neck. Literally, for a long time this guy couldn’t look up and down. I’m guessing he finally started to go to a chiropractor or got neck surgery so he could finally be able to do so.

So he’s married to the job, but he will never be married to a woman. Because Doomguy is you! And you are single!

Zoey (Left 4 Dead franchise)

What’s more attractive than a woman who watches horror movies? A woman that can shoot as well! Love of horror and guns is what Zoey learned from her father; the latter skill which has helped her survive the initial outbreak, which resulted in her having to pull the trigger on her own father who had been bitten by her mother.

Yet despite the horror of what she had to do, Zoey has been able to maintain a perky outlook on her situation. An attitude that makes her endearing to the group of survivors as they fight off hordes of ravenous infected. Yes, she has become more serious since the events of Left 4 Dead, but that doesn’t stop gamers from falling for her. But despite her attractiveness, positive outlook, and congenial manner she hasn’t found love in the apocalypse just yet.

Chun Li (Street Fighter)

An Interpol agent who was relentless in attempting to take down M. Bison, who was responsible for the death of her father, Chun Li proved she was a force to be reckoned with. She mastered several fighting styles such as Chinese kempo, tai chi chuan, and sanda among other disciplines while sporting a modified, blue qipao with golden accents, brown leggings, and spiked bracelets. Add to all of this her fast, fighting style and her signature move the Hyakuretsukyaku and she instantly became a fan favorite.

Yet, despite being the first lady of fighting games who is tough-as-nails and devoted to her profession, she has yet to find that special someone. For now, the void is filled by her teaching children kung fu and taking care of her adopted daughter Li Fen.

But who knows? Maybe she’ll finally dropkick the right guy. Love at first kick! Am I right?

Paine (Final Fantasy X-2)

If you think pulling teeth out of an alligator is tough, imagine what it would be like trying to learn more about Paine if you took her out on a date! This young woman is cynical, moody, quiet, and tends to keep to herself. She is also slow to open up to her friends, just ask Yuna and Rikku.

Before running around with the Gullwings, Paine was a part of the Crimson Squad. An elite squad which means that she is tough as can be. Especially with how the group ended through tragic events. Events that she isn’t willing to share and took Yuna and Rikku a long time to get out of her.

Suffice to say, if you ever wanted to date a female version of Squall Leonhart, then Paine is the girl for you. Just know that it would take a lot of work to get anywhere with her.

I mean a whole lot. Like…trying to 100% complete a game lot. Which is probably why she is still single…

Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn)

Aloy is a skilled warrior and huntress who knows how to handle herself in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by machines. When she isn’t out hunting down mechanical creatures she is trying to learn more about her past since, as an infant, she was entrusted to Rost’s care and has no idea where she came from. Trained by her adopted father, Rost, she learned how to survive in this harsh world and has become a product of her environment. She has a gritty personality, eschews comfort and ease, is curious, and tends to be blunt, sarcastic, and confrontational.

Focused on finding out about where she comes from, it is no wonder that she doesn’t have a boyfriend. It also doesn’t help when there is a group of cultists trying to kill you too which resulted in the death of her adopted father and members of the Nora tribe.

But who knows? Maybe her relationship status will change in Horizon Forbidden West and she will no longer celebrate Valentine’s Day on her own. Then again, when a woman says that “comforts are weakness;” it might mean she will never want a relationship. Ever. After all, what is more comfortable than a relationship?

Barret Wallace (Final Fantasy 7)

What can be said about Barret? He’s a tall glass of chocolate milk, good-looking, a father who also cares about the planet, and an eco-terrorist. Okay, that last part may not be as sexy since, as the leader of Avalanche, he would carry out violent attacks. But it was his attack on the Shinra Electric Power Company No. 1 Reactor that brought Cloud Strife into his orbit.

Due to his fiery temper, emotional outbursts, and strong sense of self-righteousness he tends to get himself and his companions into sticky situations or almost makes things worse. He is also slow to trust people, which was the case with Cloud, though he seems to make exceptions for pretty women like Aerith. Suffice to say, Barrett is a good guy who loves his daughter but is a man who is still trying to make up for the mistakes of his past and guilt over fallen comrades.

Perhaps, when he can finally come to terms with all of that, he will be able to find someone.

Lara Croft (Tomb Raider Franchise)

Lara Croft’s past history has changed a few times since her first appearance back in 1996. But at her core, she is still the same attractive, intelligent tomb raider that has caused boys to become enamored with her over the years and girls to look up to her. From her signature clothing to her British accent, she has raided the tombs and hearts of many.

However, this archeologist from London has never found love for herself despite how easy it should be for her. Instead, like many modern women, she is more focused on her passion and career than a relationship. Which we can’t blame her for. Searching for, and discovering, the world’s most powerful and dangerous artifacts is a pretty cool thing to do.

So keep on raiding those tombs Ms. Croft! Just remember, time keeps on ticking for everyone.

As for the guys still obsessing over her, Lara has been succinct when she says, “Don’t you think you’ve seen enough?”

Duke Nukem (Duke Nukem Franchise)

If you were to look up the definition of the word “perfection,” all you would see is a picture of Duke Nukem. For good reason! He is tall, fit, famous, stylish, and wealthy! If that isn’t enough he is also an author of the book ‘Why I’m So Great’, a business owner of a casino, there’s a burger chain named after him, and even a museum dedicated to his masculinity and heroics. He is the total package!

So it is not surprising that this hyper masculine, wise-cracking, and politically incorrect depiction of bulging beef is like catnip for all the ladies in his world; and ours. There’s a reason why Duke likes to say, “They don’t make ‘em better than me.”

So why would he choose to be single? That’s easy to explain! When the world is your oyster, why limit yourself?

Hail to the king, baby!
