One of the goals I very briefly talked about for 2022 was releasing a song as a way to produce more content. This pretty much entails purchasing a beat, writing some lyrics, and then either performing it myself or having someone else perform it. Obviously, I’m not a singer or rapper in any sense of the word except when in the shower. I just don’t have the voice for it and I’m sure you will agree if you’ve listened to any of my podcasts.
But that doesn’t stop me from writing the occasional poem, a song, or even a rap. Most of the time, it is a spur-of-the-moment thing and I just focus on it until I have a version that I am mildly satisfied with such as my poem “The Cry of a Child.” When it comes to songs, either I’ll hear a good beat or my mind just goes off on its own and creates some weird melody. “The Bath Song” is one such example while something like the “SimCity Rap Battle – A Crime Against Rhyme” was created as a post for a website I used to write for.
With the “Los Santos Freeway Song,” which is a working title, I was just listening to some beats on YouTube when I got a notification for a new upload by Jake Angel Beats. The second I heard the beat, I immediately jived with it and my mind started trying to come up with lyrics. For some reason, the lyrics were based on the Grand Theft Roleplay scene (GTA RP) which is addicting to watch when you find some great streamers. I’ve been watching NoPixel, which is the number one server within the sector and so, I started to churn out some verses based on it.
Now, I love the vibrant sound of the track and the gospel feel of it. But rather than writing lyrics for a gospel song, I wrote a rap song for civilians in GTA RP. I have to say, when it comes to the music created for the roleplaying scene, I can’t help but be surprised by the quality of the artists and the songs released. A lot of the music created is under ingame record labels such as WuChang Records, Mandem Records, and older ones such as Gno-Mercy Records. And it is always astonishing to hear the tracks produced by people that are on par or better than what the mainstream produces.
However, a lot of the more popular songs tend to focus on criminals and cops. At least, it seems that way to me. So I challenged myself to try and come up with lyrics to highlight what it is like being a civilian trapped between these two factions.
Overall, I spent several hours quickly jotting down some verses and a chorus to the point that I am satisfied with what I came up with. I kind of wish the song was twice as long because I could incorporate more into the piece, but it is what I can work with. But, now that I have these lyrics, do I go any further than just writing? I am tempted. But I’d have to save up the money to take this further. I would, at the very least, want to pay the $200 for an unlimited license for the beat. Preferably pay for the exclusive license though I do not know how much that would cost (the composer only says to make an offer).
Perhaps I could try to raise the money through an IndieGoGo campaign which would make my decision easier. If I took this route, I could add goals such as hiring a semi-professional artist, renting out a recording booth, hiring a producer, and even hiring someone to make a music video. Or I can hope that people who see this post might be inclined to donate for this effort. These are things for me to consider, though I’d be more than happy to hear what you have to say.
Also, I might…MIGHT…record an acapella version of me rapping the lyrics and sharing it here. Then you can play it in tandem with the beat to get a sense of what it would sound like if I could have a professional do all of this.
Until then, check out the lyrics, and let me know what you think! Also, check out the GTA RP NoPixel music scene! It might surprise you! In addition, I added the YouTube video of the beat so you can listen to it while reading the lyrics.
Verse 1
Hop into my car for a ride you feel me
Tired of the crap happening in the city
Cops trying to raid you willy nilly
Crims shoot you up just for acting silly
Civvies getting shot up by both sides
Cops and Crims never really care if we die
We have to leave the city to stay alive
Over escalating bs where we yield or die
So what should a civvie like me try to do
Report crime to cops, hunted down by crews
Help the crims, cops will come for you
Run a business that both sides will abuse
Can’t blame me when I start to pop my top
Need to get away so I close up shop
Let out a sigh, get into my Ingot
Time for a long cruise that may never stop
Chorus
Cause I’m driving down Los Santos Freeway
Happy cause I’m doing things my way
Don’t really care what the cops will say
As I’m doing my thing on Los Santos Freeway
Never gonna stop, gonna keep on rolling
Whether there’s a shootout or bombs exploding
Never gonna phase me as I keep on going
Los Santos Freeway is where I’m roaming
Verse 2 Part 1
Need to grab some food for my very long trip
Stop at Maldinis to grab food real quick
As I buy my food, the place gets hit
Now I’m running and I’m ducking back into my whip
If I talk to cops, crims call me a snitch
Stick around, cops think I’m involved with it
What can a civvie do about all of this
Get out of the city, take a very long trip
Bridge (Sung Wistfully)
I may, not know, where the road will go
But I know that anything is better than this
Whether fast or slow, I will cruise down that road
And leave troubles behind in that cesspit
Verse 2 Part 2
With my mind made up I am out of here
The crims and cops can kiss my derriere
Tired of being scared, living in total fear
A road trip is needed to clear the air
Traveling down the freeway is just the thing
To clear my mind and start really thinking
Of what to do about this quandary
Answers simple, be a stronger civilian!
Chorus x2
Cause I’m driving down Los Santos Freeway
Happy cause I’m doing things my way
Don’t really care what the cops will say
As I’m doing my thing on Los Santos Freeway
Never gonna stop, gonna keep on rolling
Whether there’s a shootout or bombs exploding
Never gonna phase me as I keep on going
Los Santos Freeway is where I’m roaming
