Song: Fool For Loving You (Lyrics)

I didn’t think I would write another song so soon after the last one. But since I wrote Los Santos Freeway Song, I have been checking out all kinds of beats on YouTube and adding them to the list. One of the things that drew me to this song, aside from the beat and melody, was that it came with a hook. While my assumption is that the song’s creator (Insane Beats) meant this to be a love song, that was not what I had in mind when it came to the lyrics.

Titled “I Believe In You” the beat is a sad one and features a piano as background music. It’s supposed to be a love theme of sorts and, looking at the comments section, the majority of people who have listened to it certainly think so. The theme would, in my opinion, involve some kind of breakup and a reconciliation being the conclusion to the story that would be told.

But as I listened to the words of the opening hook, I knew that this couldn’t be a love song with a happy ending. This was a song about a woman who left her man, because things didn’t go the way she wanted, and then she decided to come back to him. Why? Because she is alone and finds out that he not only got over her, but got to the level he was always shooting for but didn’t arrive at quickly enough for her when she broke up with him. It’s a story that is a common occurrence in modern times but never really discussed.

With that thought in mind, I started writing the lyrics to explain the main reason why she left the guy, what she did while they were separated, and how that affected the man. How her leaving him resulted in him putting his life into high gear to get what he wanted. So throughout the song he is mostly keeping calm, but there is a hint of bitterness throughout it where, at times, it comes to the forefront.

If I am able to purchase the beat (unlimited license is $120, exclusive $350), I might want to make the track a couple minutes longer to further explore the breakup, the reasons, and what about the man further changed.

I have to say, I like the lyrics I came up with though I wanted to say more. The intent of my song is to get both genders to think when it comes to relationships. Why should a man take back a woman who left him, slept around, and then came back because she either had no other options or he became successful to the point that satisfied her requirements? That men should focus on themselves and get to the level where they can find a woman worthy of marriage who won’t leave him over finances and status. That a man can get over the woman he loves leaving him, focus on himself, and find someone better than the one who left.

When I heard the lyrics, my initial thought was that I don’t know how any man that could listen to the words and think this is a love song. For me, the woman is being manipulative by trying to guilt the man, and even call him a coward, into taking her back after she had her fun. Then she tries to gaslight him by declaring she is innocent and nags him to try and get him to take her back. It’s something a lot of men would fall for because they think they can’t do better, or that they will never be able to find anyone else, or are weak-minded to fall for this manipulation.

Am I wrong? What do the opening words of the hook mean to you when you hear them?

Chorus

I believe, I believe there’s love in you

We’re back on the dusty avenues

Inside your heart, just afraid to go

I’m more, I’m more than innocent

But just take a chance and let me in

I’ll show you ways, that you don’t know

Verse 1

It’s a fact I loved you, this was true

But that followed you out the door that you went through

Then I knew, I was a fool for loving you

As the tears rained down pooling across the avenue

I never really thought, but I should have known

That you would leave me since I didn’t yet acquire a throne

Had to get over you and return to form

The old me died that day and was reborn

Now you’ll show me ways that I didn’t know?

That you learned riding on that cock carousel

No thanks my dear, I’m no longer forlorn

I’ve earned my peace and can’t be shorn

Yet here you are right in front of me

As I bask in the light of my prosperity

But you come back and have the gall to say

On bended knees as you start to plead?

Chorus

So please,

I know you baby, I know you baby

So please,

I know you baby, I know you baby

Verse 2

I fought and struggled and battled my way

Kept getting knocked down, told to stay in my lane

Refused to buckle under pressure or lose my frame

Because I knew the potential if I could reach the endgame

The years passed by as I start to get older

But the gains being made resulted in stronger shoulders

That helped me push back up when knocked down on the corner

Life is hard for a man so we have to be stoic

As the struggle is real, we don’t get free meals

Have to fight, scrap, and bargain to make our own deals

Like metal forged by fire and on the anvil

Discipline is required to become a sword of steel

To become the man that I was always meant to be

That today’s society demonizes daily

Yet are the ones who shake the world without apology

A sword of steel slicing through your hypocrisy

Chorus

So please,

I know you baby, I know you baby

So please,

I know you baby, I know you baby

Verse 3

If you had really known me, you would never have left

That I would rise to the top and you would have been kept

Safe and secure by me who would have even fought death

To keep you happy, wealthy, and no longer bereft

But you weren’t patient and you became cruel

Fought with me and when in public ridiculed

Me in front of everyone that we ever knew

Tried to gaslight me, spreading lies, Crying MeToo

Now that’s over, in the end I won

Shaming language and guilt against me is bygone

You won’t make me stray off the path that I’m on

Now the king of a castle you refused to wait on

I kept my frame, am at the top of my game

You taught me a harsh lesson that I had to pay

To get the woman I want and live life my way

Unaffected by your final pleas as I walk away

Chorus

So please,

I know you baby, I know you baby

So please,

I know you baby, I know you baby

(Injected during final lines)

Fool I was for loving you

Go back to your budget Chads and Tyrones
