Indie developer M.O. Studios has announced the release of its first title, The Abandoned Presence, set to hit Steam for PC in Q2 2024. The game is a Metroidvania style title that is set in a city inspired by the urban heritage center of India. The announcement was accompanied by an exciting trailer showcasing the game’s steampunk style and gameplay.
The game follows the main protagonist Zoey, a young woman who grew up in the city, as she attempts to uncover the city’s dark secrets. The urban jungle is filled with patrol units, elite enemies, and mechanized bosses, all attempting to keep the city’s dark secrets hidden. Players must explore hidden passages, unlock new abilities, and fight their way through mobs of enemies to progress.
Like with any game of the Metroidvania genre, players will explore the city in order to unlock new abilities, access new areas, and discover even more of the city’s secrets. Players will be able to learn new combo-focused skills as they fight their way through enemies and gain access to new weapons. With each weapon offering its own skill tree, providing a unique playstyle and skills to learn.
A Kickstarter campaign will launch on May 3rd in addition to a simultaneous release of a playable demo. No details about fundraising goals or further details have been provided.
The Abandoned Presence is M.O. Studios’ first title and is tentatively scheduled for a Q2 2024 release on Steam and can be wishlisted. Whether the game will be released on other platforms has yet to be revealed.
