Swiss-based Indie developer Sunnyside Games has announced the release date for their 2D platformer Nocturnal. Set to launch on June 7th, the game will be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox platforms, and PC.
In Nocturnal, players will embark on an odyssey as Ardeshir, a valiant soldier of the Enduring Flame, who returns to his homeland after a treacherous voyage across a troubled sea. However, upon his arrival in Nahran, Ardeshir discovers that the area is shrouded in a foreboding mist. In order to overcome the encroaching darkness, he must master the power of fire, utilizing it to unravel the secrets concealed beneath the fog.
Fire will be the player’s most versatile tool in Nocturnal, enabling them to repel the malevolent Mist, illuminate their surroundings, activate machinery, and combat dark magical entities. As players progress, they can enhance their abilities by offering collected ashes to the flame. These offerings will bestow newfound powers such as expanded lifeforce, extended breath-holding capabilities, and the possibility of acquiring additional abilities through sacrificing ashes.
Nocturnal will offer various trials for the speedrunning crowd by offering specific features that include faster transitions, skippable cutscenes, and a pausable timer. There is also a Permadeath Mode for more hardcore gamers where players will have only a single life to complete the game.
Sunnyside Games co-founder Gabriel Sonderegger expressed his excitement for the game’s impending release stating,
“Reception to Nocturnal from Steam Next Fest and PAX East was super positive, so we’re thrilled that people can finally play the full game. We wanted Nocturnal to effortlessly flow between fast, frenetic action and hair-raising tension, with your constantly depleting host of light sources. It’s a thrilling balancing act that we think platforming fans will really get a kick out of.”
Nocturnal is set to release on June 7th for Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and XBOX platforms priced at $19.99 for console versions and $16.99 for PC.
