Knightly Musings: What Would I Do If I Won the $1 Billion Powerball

The Powerball jackpot is back up to $1 billion and everyone in the United States is whipped up in a frenzy. Who wouldn’t want to spend $2 for a ticket in the hopes of winning such a large sum of money? In fact, a lot of people play these lotteries in the hope of winning that amount. Even I, from time-to-time, will buy a ticket out of curiosity to see what might happen. But what would I do with $1 billion if I won the Powerball?

It’s a question that everyone asks themselves and ponders. Some people would say that they would quit their job and go on a long vacation. Others would quickly retire or buy the things they always wanted to own. In essence, it’s safe to say that the first thing many consider is indulging themselves. I myself would like to take a nice month-long vacation before going back to work and bring my friends and family with me.

But yes, go back to work.

For myself.

I’m sure there are many of you yelling at your screen saying that I am crazy. And maybe I am. But I like to do things. I like to be productive. However, in order to be productive, I need peace and privacy. Something that tends to be sorely lacking throughout my life. Even so, I would want to work. But work at creating businesses and ventures.

After all, there are a number of businesses I would like to start up and winning that amount of money would certainly make it viable. One of the businesses I plan to create is a publishing company. I want to be able to discover talented authors and help them publish their books. I love reading and, while I still hope to publish my own work, I also want to help others do so as well (you can read some rough drafts of my work such as stories and poems on this site).

Another business I would want to create is a news outlet for video games, entertainment (movies and tv), and even politics. However, I would want the news reported in a factual and unbiased manner while trying to find people that are level-headed and able to report the news as news without trying to insert their opinions or biases into it. I would also want these outlets to stay above the rest when it comes to dealing with developers, studios, celebrities, etc. That the work produced is not sullied or questioned as being affected by a fear of what other entities would want because I’m sick of these click-jocks.

That we would report the news no matter how good or bad it reflects on what is being reported upon.

I also think starting a video game studio would be pretty cool to start up as well. Though I would definitely hire more competent people than I to run. But being able to direct people in what kind of games to create would be nice even if I can’t code worth a darn.

Movie and animation studios would also be something I would like to create as well. Being able to create inhouse movies or cartoons based on the stories we publish? That would be pretty awesome! And if I could buy the rights to Star Trek, Stargate, and a few others, I would do it as well so we can get some great scifi again!

Then I would want to create some local businesses that could be social hubs for the community. Arcades, restaurants, and even a small local movie theater as some examples. Then hire local people to run them with the goal of strengthening the community and camaraderie within the area that I live.

To boil it all down to a couple of things, I want to create businesses that have the ability to affect culture and communities in positive ways. Being able to fight back against the current degeneracy of our nation and communities.

As for more selfish endeavors. I would buy a nice house with lots of land immediately for farming and recreational use. However, I would also want to have a new house built based on my tastes. Things I would definitely want in my house? A grand library (filled with first editions), music hall, theater room, a big pool, basketball court, gaming room, and even a race track.

Though where I would want to live is something I would still need to think about.

Some nice cars like a Lamborghini Aventador and Brabham BT62R would be awesome as well. I would definitely want a yacht so I can go sailing all over the world whenever the urge hits. And the yacht would have to be big enough to accommodate a personal helicopter.

Which means I would also like my own private plane so I can travel at a moment’s notice without having to go through the major airports. Seriously, I have going to the airports and deal with all that stuff.

Finally, I would like to fund some archeological excursions to keep learning more about humanity’s past. For example, I would love to be partially responsible for locating the tomb of Alexander the Great. Learn more about the Pyramids (a passion of mine) and fund other excursions that catch my interest.

Then set up some scholarships for bright minds wishing to find solutions to reducing pollution, finding better energy alternatives (hydrogen is my bet on this aside from nuclear), and other scientific pursuits.

Of course, fund my local food bank as well which I try to volunteer at every month.

But there you have it! Just some of the things I would want, wish for, or do with $1 billion if I were to win the Powerball.

Though, to be honest, I would just settle for enough money to pay my bills without having to worry or stress about it. To be able to have peace and privacy so that way I can fully focus on my writing. Meanwhile, I’ll just keep chugging along.

So what would you do with all of that money?
