It is no secret that video game news outlets are dominated by the Left and, as a result, have parroted a recent claim by mainstream media that President Donald Trump will impose a 60% tariff on China. When it comes to the topic of tariffs and China, everyone should take an interest, especially gamers. After all, the bulk of video game consoles are manufactured in China along with other electronics. But in typical, click-jock journalistic fashion, games and tech journalists are screeching about a 60% tariff tax on China to scare gamers.
Yes, President Trump plans to raise tariffs from 3.4%, the lowest in the world, up to 10% or 20% according to Agenda 47 and the Trump Reciprocal Trade Act.
However, the claim that President Trump will impose a 60% tariff on China, when he starts his second and final term as President, is a false claim meant to drive a sensationalist narrative to frighten gullible Americans. To demonize any increase in Tariffs that he will impose once he is president again as Leftist media pushed its narrative that Trump’s tariffs will cripple the economy as the price of foreign goods increases as a result of tariff increase.
Which is why the media, and video game journalists, are certainly focused on 60% because the theoretical price point of almost $1,000 for a PlayStation 5 Pro is far more alarming than a 20% tariff that would, in theory, drive the cost to $840.
Obviously, any increase in tariffs will have an effect on the price of goods which would result in importers passing on the costs to the consumer. But journalists’ myopic take, whether for malicious and deceptive purposes or a product of ignorance, is laughable to witness and deplorable for its disingenuousness. They ignore Trump’s approach to dealing with those price increases in the form of decreasing tax rates on income which involves lowering of taxes for workers, businesses, and families according to the outline for the Trump Reciprocal Trade Act,
“- As tariffs on foreign countries go up, taxes on American workers, families, and businesses can come down.
– Raising tariffs on foreign producers while lowering taxes for domestic producers will help keep jobs and wealth in the United States.”
As you can read, despite what video games and tech journalists are telling you, there is a plan for helping Americans deal with the increased prices of foreign goods. A plan which has a goal of bringing domestic manufacturing back while making the global market more competitive when it comes to foreign goods being imported.
We recommend you take a look at your paycheck stub and see how much money is taken out for Federal taxes. Then ask yourself whether or not that amount will have an impact on your life if President Trump follows through and either lowers, or gets rid of, the tax on income. It certainly will for those living paycheck-to-paycheck which happens to be around 78% of Americans.
Also consider the impact of Trump’s universal tariffs and how that could spur competition amongst the nations and from within America itself. If China, which imposes a 19.5% tariff on American goods compared to the current 3.4% on its goods, refuses to play ball, then another country could take those manufacturing jobs away. Just like China did to American manufacturing. Or China is forced to bite the bullet on its end by reducing manufacturing costs, because of competition, and prices for consoles won’t change.
Let’s not forget that some foreign goods such as electronics and video game consoles may be excluded from the increased tariffs. Just like video game consoles were excluded during Trump’s first term as President when he levied tariffs against China.
Whatever your opinion on tariffs are, there needs to be a good-faith discussion about them. Not the biased doom-and-gloom ramblings of mainstream media and journalists desperate for attention and clicks. To paraphrase a well-known quote from 1984,
“The partisan journalists told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
So calm down, noobs. Let’s have a real discussion about Trump’s tariff and the impact it will have on electronics and everything that has to do with video games and gaming.
