Gray Zone Warfare, an open-world extraction shooter from Madfinger Games, has been recognized as one of the top 20 games in terms of gross revenue on Steam for 2024, according to The GameDiscoverCo. The game, which entered Early Access on April 30, has sold over 1 million base game units, which retails for $34.99 on Steam, and a total of 1.5 million units in less than a year.
The gross revenue milestone places Gray Zone Warfare in the same league as many other more established industry titles that includes Black Myth: Wukong, Palworld, Helldivers 2, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Tekken 8.
Commenting on GameDiscoverCo’s announcement, Madfinger Games CEO and Creative Director Marek Rabas said,
“The achievement reflects the passion and commitment of both our community and our team. While we celebrate this success, we acknowledge that our journey is far from over, with the game currently at just 20% completion.”
Rabas went on to outline plans for 2025, promising two significant updates and global localization efforts, that aims to expand the game’s reach and refine its gameplay experience. Along with the announcement, a new gameplay trailer for the Night Ops update was released which introduces a new day/night cycle and tactical gear such as night vision goggles, laser sights, and flashlights.
Gray Zone Warfare provides a seamless open-world environment where players engage in tactical combat, resource extraction, and survival challenges. Since the launch of its Early Access, Gray Zone Warfare saw a peak if 72,548 concurrent players on Steam shortly after its week. However, player drop-off has been drastic and it currently averages around 4,000-5,000 players per day.
