If you were hoping to start off 2025 by controlling sexy vampire-slaying nuns, then you’ll have to wait just a little longer. Originally scheduled to be released January 4th, Nunholy’s launch date on Steam has been delayed as the submitted build has yet to be approved by the platform.
Indie developer Chowbie released a statement on Steam and X stating,
“All preparations for Nunholy have been completed and it’s now ready for release. However, the build review I submitted on December 22 is still not finished, and I’ve put in an inquiry to find out what’s causing the delay. If the review isn’t completed by tomorrow, the release may inevitably be delayed slightly..😢
That said, as soon as the review is finished, I can release it immediately, so I don’t expect it to be delayed for more than a week. Because of the year-end and New Year holidays, I should have submitted the build for review sooner—this was my mistake. I’ll make every effort to release it as quickly as possible.
I’m terribly sorry to everyone who has been waiting.”
The announcement was met with disappointment from gamers looking forward to the indie game which involves nuns slaying vampires. The Wedding Witch developer further explained, when asked by an X user, that Nunholy’s review application failed due to an issue over NSFW content stating,
“I answered in the Steam survey that this game contains some mildly sexual content, but the review team said they couldn’t verify it and rejected it. I think it’s because that content (the illustration) appears in the ending.”
As to the sexual content of the illustrations, according to Chowbie, “…there are some illustrations with slight sexual undertones.”
Nunholy is set in a world overrun by vampires in which a group of nuns have arrived at the Hunter’s Guild looking to slay these creatures of the night: Preiya the vampire hunter, Marie the executioner, and Sain the purifier. From there, players will be able to explore various dungeons as they attempt to hunt down vampires who will come in a plethora of forms and ranks from knight to duke.
With each vampire slain, players will be faced with the choice of absorbing the vampire’s power to make their nun more powerful, or to sell it and upgrade their gear. Throughout the dungeons, players will also encounter merchants, prisoners, witches, and undertakers who they can interact and trade with to help prepare for the vampire hunt.
Nunholy can be added to wishlists now with the release expected to be soon on Steam, though no price has been revealed. Nunholy is also expected to be released for the Nintendo Switch according to the developer who simply stated that they are “in the process of obtaining certification for the Switch version!”
