Three former Ubisoft executives are heading to trial in France, starting March 10 through the 14th regarding allegations made back in 2020 over sexual and moral harassment as well as toxic management.
The trial, which is being held by the Bobigny criminal court, follows in the wake of allegations made on Twitter, now known as X, by former and current Ubisoft employees who accused the Assassin’s Creed developer of harboring sexual abusers. Some of the accusations made included threats of rape,. manipulation, emotional abuse, physical assault, homophobic work culture, and racism.
At the time, Ubisoft was quick to respond by bringing in an external consultancy group to conduct an internal investigation and released a statement,
“We want to start by apologizing to everyone affected by this – we are truly sorry. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive and safe environment for our teams, players, and communities. It is clear we have fallen short of this in the past. We must do better.”
That investigation led to the arrest of three Ubisoft executives, with another two placed into custody according to French newspaper Libération.
Now, heading to trial starting March 10 are former chief creative officer Serge Hascoët, ex-VP of editorial and creative services Tommy François, and Guillaume Patrux who, along with others, shortly resigned following the allegations and investigation.
After hearing dozens of testimonies from Ubisoft employees, it was revealed and alleged that Francois would show pornographic films (playing the audio over loudspeaker), kiss employees on the mouth without warning, played “cat and dick,” remarked on employees’ physical appearance, sexual assault, and other acts including tying an employee to a chair over and over.
Regarding Hascouët, he is accused of making racist comments and acts which involved allegedly asking a Muslim employee if they believed in the ideas of the Islamic State, putting images of bacon sandwiches as her PC’s wallpaper, and food on her desk during Ramadan.
Patrux is being dismissed for moral harassment.
