If Snowpiercer were merged with Lovecraftian aesthetics and the ability to leave the train and explore, then that would result in RailGods of Hysterra. A co-op survival game, RailGods of Hysterra has just entered Steam Early Access for those foolish enough to think they can survive in a Lovecraftian-type world.
Developed by Troglobytes Games, players take on the role of a Dreamer who must traverse and survive in the world of Hysterra, which has devastated by the arrival of the Great Old Ones. Dreamers are bound to their RailGod, a sentient locomotive created through forbidden rituals and unholy magic that craves flesh in order to continue its journey.
Players will need to use their sentient trains to travel between outposts in lands inhabited by cultists and nightmarish creatures. To do that, utilizing your ultimate weapon, your train, is essential as it is a fortress on wheels. To make it even more formidable will require you to update its carriages and deepen your symbiotic bond with the Railgod by sacrificing enemies to it and receive Dark Gifts to gain an advantage over the eldritch creatures.
All while trying to maintain your sanity and not go mad.
Whether by yourself, or with friends, players will be able to disembark from their RailGod to explore, gather, and fight in various areas and hidden dungeons.
And, eventually, reach the point where you will be able to challenge the Great Old Ones themselves.
